Most of the Rock Girls we've interviewed since the beginning of our rock explosive adventure, came from USA, which doesn't sound that strange, cause it's there that rock was born, but one night (while I was sailing through the web) I met the Cat Daiquiri, a female glam metal cover band coming from Japan! I had a pleasant chat with the bass player Deth Tomo, a beautiful lady who loves the 80's L.A. rock scene and who represents the rising sun taste for hard rock, AOR and Metal very well. I do apologize, but I never liked the Tamagochi or similar Japanise inventions, neither I've ever been able to explain to myself why do so many bands reserve to the Japanise releases of their albums so many bonus tracks or stuff which in Europe is not available, or that costs a ton! Talking with Ms Deth Tomo I've tried to understand something more about the Rising Sun culture, while in my mind was playing "Tokio Girls, Go Bang Bang!"... doesn't it remind you a song by Space Age Playboys?

Hi Deth Tomo, I'm glad to have you ready to answer to my questions. Ok, let's start! Introduce us Cat Daiquiri. When, how and where did you meet the other girls, and why did you decide to form a cover band?
We (Me, Kayoli and Kumiko) first met at Pretty Boy Floyd's show in Tokyo back in July 2002. Then we started hanging out at the coolest rock bar named Godz, or going to a club named Cathouse Japan. After a while, we found ourselves wanting something new and more fun, and this made us to decide to form a band. But, as I was the only one to play musical instrument, we decided to have two main vocals, just like the Nasty Habits (for Motely Crue, of course). Other members were gathered through online (drummer), and through our friend's friend, something like that. But our drummer has to leave the band because of her family issue.

What could you tell us to explain the reason of the choice of your monicker Cat Daiquiri?
Chip Z'nuff (Of Enuff Z'nuff) came up with this name. As Kumiko is a huge fan of theirs, she asked him to name us. He first suggested "Fonda Dix" and "Cat Daiquiri". Then "Cat Daiquiri" sounded better to us so that we pick it.

Which are the artists and the bands that influenced you the most since the beginning of your career? Why and when did you decide to be a bass player? Is there an episode in your life that forced you to became a musician?
Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue! I started playing bass at age of 14. At first, it looked not many people, especially girls , don't play bass. That's why I picked the bass to play. Actually , I wasn't into music itself really. I met Motley Crue's music, I think half year later I started playing bass, they really rocked my world when my I first saw Dr. Feelgood video.

You're our first Rock Girl from Japan! I know that your Country is a sort of heaven for a lot of European and American hard rock, heavy metal, AOR bands, since 70's. For example I can mention the legendary Deep Purple "Made In Japan" live album. Can you explain us the reasons why Japanese audience are so particularly close to these great kinds of music? There's some other Japanese rock bands that you particularly like? What do you think about X Japan and Malice Mizer?
I am proud be the first one, thank you. Yes, Japan is absolutely heaven for European and American musicians. I think we Japanese become into bands from abroad because they are in higher levels musically. There are not Japanese bands that I love particularly. I don't know much about neither X Japan or Malice Mizer. Those who are into foreign music, I should say "most" of us, are not really interested in them. Malice Mizer is a Visual-Kei band, not rock n' roll, in my opinion (It's true they are "Visual-Kei"! N.d.T.).

Describe us the best Cat Daiquiri live show of ever? Which are the songs that you usually play on stage? Deth, do you have any song you feel particularly close to?
Our first show in last November, because it's first and latest. We mainly play Runaways, Poison, Faster Pussycat, L.A. Guns, Skid Row, Hanoi Rocks on stage. I like playing all of the songs because all of them are close to me.

What do you usually do before going on stage? Do you have any particular usage or kind of spell against bad luck?
Drinking beer, Not too much! Put on boots from right one, not from left!

Which are the future Cat Daiquiri's plans. Are you interested in writing your own songs and releasing some original stuff, or probably Cat Daiquiri will remain a 70's/80's hard rock tribute band?
At this point, I just hope Cat Daiquiri lasts long. We hope to have some original tunes, but they must sound like some tribute kind.

What do you think about the international rock'n'roll scene of today and about the reunions of great acts as Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, etc.?
I'm glad to see my favourite band reunion. But it turns me off if they do that over and over again since it sounds they do that to make money, especially when they tour in Japan.

In your opinion which are the positive and the negative aspects in being a nice girl in the todays Japanese rock scene?
Some says positive, some says negative. I don't care what people think.

What's your opinion about internet and about exchanging music on-line, sharing mp3 files and so on?
I think it's important to protect copyrights, but it is true that some listeners buy albums after they take a listen to those samples. As samples, there are not big problems. It depends on our morals, though.

Have you still got a dream unrealised? If so and if I may ask, what is it about?
I have dreams, but sorry, I keep them secret...

Now tell us the greatest movie you've ever seen, the most recent book you read, the 5 best albums you ever listened to and the most spectacular rock concert you've been at.
I'm not into movies much. I don't have much time to read, but the last book I read was Osamu Dazai's. It's too hard to pick up only 5 albums from all of my favourite ones! Motely Crue "Dr. Feelgood", Poison "Look What The Cat Dragged In", Pretty Boy Floyd "Pretty Boy Floyd", Bang Tango "Psycho Cafe", Dangerous Toys "Dangerous Toys". The best concert I've been to was Aerosmith's.

Associate adjectives and/or comments to the following words:
Asian girls: Not all of us have sharp, small eyes!
Beautiful Creatures: Joe Leste!
Los Angeles: The place I wanna live.

Where's the freakiest place you had a sexual approach? In your opinion where's the best place to have sex?
At the drive in, in the old men's Ford...

In you personal opinion can exist sex without love or love without sex? Or do you think these two elements cannot be separated?
Depends on the situations. Both could be acceptable!

Which are the craziest or most dangerous things you ever done in your life?
Everyday life is dangerous.

Thanks so much Deth Tomo and keep on rockin'! Here you are free space to tell whatever you want to our Exploders!
Thank you very much for picking me up for Rock Girl! The world nowadays has too much sad news, but I hope everyone become happy to listen to their kind of music. Rock never dies!
